Moisturizing or hydrating your skin is usually the final step in a proper skin care schedule, except for the natural skin care program, where moisturizing is the second step. Regardless, using a moisturizer or hydrator helps to restore vital moisture that is lost through out the day from a number of harmful elements we encounter every day. Proper moisturizing and nourishing of the skin will help restore and prevent water loss, dry patches, and superficial wrinkling due to dryness. It is best to apply a moisturizer on damp or wet skin as doing so seals in moisture and nutrients from the wetting source. Depending on your skin type, a daytime moisturizer should be easily absorbed into the skin without any build up. You should wait at least five minutes before applying makeup to give the moisturizer time to be absorbed by the skin. If you apply makeup on too soon after moisturizing, it may simply slide off. Again depending on your skin type, night time moisturizing creams should be richer and contain key select active ingredients since night time is when your skin readily absorbs nutrients without any interruption.
